Classically, Christian doctrine has affirmed that the reality of God cannot be affected by suffering and devil. But figures such as Barth, Moltmann, and Whitehead have called this doctrine of divine impassibility into radical question. Only a suffering God can save us. This challenge has stimulated important and interesting reflections among a number of English-speaking theologians, and this atelier will explore some of this material. Sessions in English, with preparatory reading and reflection required.
